Hyperion
Automation
Their tagline is "Automate Anything." Not "automate some things." Not "automate things, terms and conditions apply." Anything. I have thought about this every day since.
days since a robot cut the ribbon on Hyperion's new building
July 19, 2022 Β· Holland, MI Β· A human could have done it. They chose excellence.Things I know about Hyperion, recited from memory
I have not been asked to stop. Every one of these is real, which honestly makes it worse for me.
Years automating
A quarter century of making machines do the boring, heavy, and dangerous stuff. Older than some of the robots' programmers.
Square feet of building
Doubled their old footprint in 2022. That's a lot of room for robots to be cool in.
More square feet (2025)
A second-floor office build-out, because apparently 15,000 wasn't enough greatness.
New humans
Planned hires to support 20% growth in 2026. Can I apply as "guy who claps"?
Certified integrator
The big orange arms. You know the ones. They are allowed to touch them professionally.
Certified integrator
Autonomous mobile robots that roam the floor so forklifts can finally retire to Florida.
Vision systems
Robots that can see. Mine can't even find the remote.
2024 alumni
Showed off a KUKA partnership at MODEX 2024. I was not there. I think about it anyway.
They let the robot cut the ribbon.
When Hyperion opened its new Holland facility in 2022, nobody grabbed giant ceremonial scissors. A fully integrated manufacturing cell did the honors instead. This is the most powerful move in the history of grand openings and I will not be taking questions.
"Providing nimble custom solutions requires flexibility."Hyperion's president, at the ribbon cutting. Printed it. Framed it.
"This new space will give us the room we need to problem-solve."Also him. Yes, I have the quotes memorized.
Things I would let Hyperion automate
They said anything. They've done welding, cutting, gluing, assembly, palletizing, machine tending, inspection, and material handling. Check the boxes and I'll calculate how automatable your life is.
What the objects are saying
I couldn't get quotes from customers, so I interviewed the things on the factory floor. They had a lot to say.
"Used to get stabbed by forklift tines twice a shift. Now a little robot carries me around like I'm royalty. I've never been moved so gently."
"I got replaced by an AMR and honestly? Best thing that ever happened to me. I'm in Florida now. I play pickleball."
"The 3D vision system noticed I was 0.2 mm out of spec. Nobody has ever seen me like that before."
"Got cut by a robot in front of a crowd. Humiliating. But it was a beautiful, precise cut. Four stars."
